Top Ten Tuesday – My Best in YA

Posted March 11, 2014 by Andi in Top 10 Tuesday / 0 Comments

This was a lot harder than I expected it to be. I mean I could have done my top 10 books in any genre. I could have stuck to contemps or dystopians. I could have basically done anything, but I went with Young Adult as a whole and let me tell you narrowing it down to 10 is pretty impossible. I had 5 right a way as I am obsessed with my top 5. But the other ones were harder to narrow down. I could have gone on for a good 50-75. Alas I went with the following 10. Note, one isn’t out yet, but I wanted to hug it so much when I read it that it needed to be on this list. So what are you top 10 books in a specific genre?

Anna and the French Kiss/Jellicoe Road/Twenty Boy Summer/Delirium/Divergent/Open Road Summer/Pivot Point/What Happens Next/Second Chance Summer/Forbidden

NOTE: I recently read two books that are close to being on this list: Free to Fall and Since You’ve Been Gone. SO SO SO FANTASTIC!

  1. Jellicoe Road is my favorite YA book ever; seriously Marchetta is a goddess. And I’m ridiculously happy that you’ve included Open Road Summer – reading that this week!

  2. So I’ve read almost all on your list except for Pivot Point and Forbidden. I tried Twenty Boy Summer, but had to put it down because I just wasn’t feeling it at the time. 100% agree with the contemps you have listed here, especially Jellicoe Road. I adore Melina Marchetta.

    • You should give Twenty Boy Summer another try at some point. I’ve read it twice and loved it even more the second time around. Anna broke my heart in it.

  3. Wow YA as a whole would be hard to narrow down!! Especially if you are like me and only really read YA!! I LOVE Twenty Boy Summer. That would have probably made my list too. Anna was really good too (I can’t wait for Isla!!). And I tried to get Pivot Point from my library last week and it was checked out 🙁 Oh well next time for sure!

    • Oh no! You need to get Pivot Point if you can at some point. It was so super clever and right up my alley with the parallel life theme.

And for the record, it was super hard to do YA as a whole. I based it off of the books that have stuck with me for one reason or another.

  4. Wow. I can’t believe you were able to pick 10 YA as a whole. I’m impressed!

There’s a couple on here I haven’t read yet, I’ll have to get to them soon!

  5. Love your graphics this week and I’ve read 6/10 – or 7/12 if I include your additions. Not sure if I’ll let you know what they all are either as I’m not sure I’d be able to withstand the bullying that would result. lol

    My TTT is here.

Twenty Boy Summer was perfect!! It was the kind of emotional journey I want to be taken on in every book I read! And I only recently read Anna, but it was adorable; I totally see why so many people love it!
