Today is my turn to contribute to the fabulous feature, the brain child of Brittany at The Book Addict’s Guide, where myself, Brittany, Estelle at Rather Be Reading and Maggie at Just a Couple More Pages are paring books and beer. Pretty perfect for a bunch of beer and book lovers if you ask me.

This week for Pub Date is all about resolutions.  Honestly I’m not usually one that believes in resolutions. Just because it is a new year does’t mean I have to come up with ways to make myself “better”. But I do see the draw for some. And I definitely see the draw when it comes to certain things…like beer and books. So I thought about this for a while and came to one conclusion.  I need to start trying more local breweries and I need to stop hiding from large books that scare me.

The Beer
Jack’s Abby Brewing – Mass Rising
I was giving a sampler pack of a variety of beers from a variety of different brewers for Christmas. I noticed a lot of the beers that were selected for me were from local breweries. Honestly it made pick a beer for today’s post easier than I expected. I spotted the Mass Rising beer first so I went with it. I knew it would be a bit stronger based on the 8% alcohol content, but other than that I didn’t know what to expect as I didn’t read the description. But after drinking it I 100% agree with what the bottle says. Mass Rising is a very bitter and hoppy beer. It isn’t something I could drink all the time but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be with the first sip. Definitely not a beer for non-adventurous beer drinkers. Other beer: Samuel Adams Noble Pils

The Book
The Diviners by Libba Bray
I started this book in 2013. I read about 30 pages and got scared by it. It is a lot of pages, more pages than any book I had read at that point and I convinced myself I couldn’t read. Well in 2014 I learned that I can read big books and it is okay to take a while to read a long book. And in 2015 I have convinced myself that I will in fact read this book and finish it.

And there you have my Pub Date. I will be hosting this lovely feature every few weeks and would love for you to stop by and share a pint with me…or at least tell me what you are currently enjoying. Make sure you follow along with Brittany, Estelle and Maggie too. You never know when you will find your new favorite beer.

  1. EXCELLENT resolutions. That beer looks delish and I want to read The Diviners too! …. but not yet haha. I need to be less afraid of big books too just because they take so long to read! Hey, if they’re good, it won’t take me as long as a bad short book, right?
