You’re the One I Want – Must Have Summer Reads

Posted July 2, 2013 by Andi in Readathon / 0 Comments

summerlovinI love posts that have to do with Summer Reads. I just had a conversation with a friend not that long ago about high school required summer reading lists. We came to the conclusion that the word “required” might be what turns kids off from wanting to read books. I suggested letting them pick their own books, both classics and current young adult, and having them read 5-10 of them. If that was the case, I don’t think it would be such a chore and I know myself personally would have read more than I did. As an adult that reads YA it got me thinking what I would want on my list and this post is the perfect time to share that. So what would I pick if I could pick?

1) Anna and the French Kiss, Stephanie Perkins(review)
2) Eleanor & Park, Rainbow Rowell(review)
3) Jellicoe Road, Melina Marchetta(review)
4) Divergent, Veronica Roth(review)
5) Twenty Boy Summer, Sarah Ockler(review)
6) Hate List, Jennifer Brown
7) What Happens Next, Colleen Clayton(review)
8) Catcher in the Rye, JD Salinger
9) The Program, Suzanne Young(review)
10) Parallel, Lauren Miller(review)

Each book has something I think a teen would like or needs to read. Some are more fun then serious and some are just emotional. But all I think have something special that could be a great summer read.

What would be on your list? Also check out my list of my planned summer reading from Top 10 Tuesday here.

I’m planning to read Twenty Boy Summer! I love the name 🙂 Catcher in the Rye is also awesome book!

    • Twenty Boy Summer is so good! I’ve read it twice. My quote for an upcoming read-a-thon post is from that book it stuck with me so much.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    • That was one of the only summer reading books I actually read and I have read it a handful of times since.

I would highly recommend Anna and the French Kiss if you want something fun for the summer.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Anna and the French Kiss seems to be on everyone’s summer reading recommendations! It just reminds me that I have to get around to reading it quick! 😀 I also need to read Divergent because I’ve heard good things and I want to read it before the movie comes out.
