I’ve said it once and I’ve said it a 100 times, I was a terrible reader in high school. I was the queen of the Cliff’s Notes (so if any of my teachers stumble upon this!). I would read about one or two books I was supposed to every summer and call it a day. I just really couldn’t get into may of the things they wanted me to get into. But I have read some of the classics and I have loved them. A handful were read in school because it was during class time, but some were read at a later date (I’m looking at you The Great Gatsby). And there are still some I need to read. So here is my list. What’s on yours?
The Catcher in the Rye/The Great Gatsby/Of Mice and Men/Night/The Scarlet Letter/A Separate Peace/To Kill a Mockingbird/Catch-22/The Bell Jar/The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

I pretty much fail when it comes to classics (I know, what?! and I’m going to teach English??). I understand the beauty and importance of classics, but I also know that some of the books today will one day be considered classics too.
Embarrassingly I forgot to even mention The Bell Jar but I can say with certainty that you will like it 🙂
I think you did better than me in school! I was kept to the very basics of reading – not a lot of experimental books. I guess that’s what you get for being homeschooled? I loved Night when I read it as an adult though, and To Kill a Mockingbird is now one of my favorites – not even for school!
Oh, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD! You should really read that one! It’s one of my favorite classics and very good!

NIGHT! Yes! I probably shouldn’t be talking about this book in exclamation marks because it’s such a terrible thing, but it’s one of my favorite books. So haunting and unimaginable. I remember not being able to fall asleep the night after reading it for the first time.
To Kill a Mockingbird, The Bell Jar, and Catch-22 are all great books. Hope you enjoy them when you get to them!
