Casper was a real cowboy on a working Texas cattle ranch before his family lost everything in the aftermath of his father’s bullriding accident. Now he’s just another piece of trailer trash wearing over-sized, two-dollar, yard-sale jeans in his mother’s hometown of Hickory Ditch, Arkansas. Early on in CHICKEN, Casper and his best friend/secret crush Brant Mitchell come across a leathersmith’s booth at Ditch Daze, the local 4th of July festival. Brant finds the perfect belt for Casper—one engraved with running horses and which happens to be the same color as Casper’s old saddle—but Casper has to tell him he can’t afford it. So this would definitely be the accessory Casper most longs for.

BOOK: The Black Stallion by Walter Farley

About the only thing Casper’s ever been good with is horses. In Hickory Ditch, everyone treats him like a loser, but back home he was a rodeo champ. Plus, horses don’t care about your secrets. They don’t care who you’re in love with as long as you show up every morning and feed them. Losing his favorite horse was the worst part of losing his home, but luckily, his new landlady Sister Bonnie offered him a job doing chores around her barn. Her grown-and-gone son has an old black gelding named Shetan. Sister Bonnie’s son told her this is an Arabic word for “like the wind” but because it’s also the real name of the black stallion in his favorite book, Casper knows it’s really an Arabic word for “the devil.”

CLOTHING: WRT20 Wrangler Retro Relaxed Bootcut Jeans in Trail Worn Denim

As much as Casper wants a nice belt to hold up his baggy jeans, what he really needs are new jeans. For a cowboy like Casper, only a pair of bootcut Wranglers would do, but he is sixteen and in love so he’d want to pick something a little more sexy and stylish than utilitarian. After all, he’s not sure if Brant Mitchell would fall for a guy a period, but he definitely wouldn’t fall for one wearing dorky dad jeans.
