Quiet Books – From Favorite Authors

I was going to do today’s Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish but we all know that is would just be a list of New Adult books and fantasy books because those are the things that were outside of my comfort zone until last year. So when I sat down to type up a post I got to thinking about a suggestion that Nicole Brinkley gave me on Twitter to talk about “Quiet Books”. I started to play with the idea in my head and though sure, I can come up with some books that aren’t talked about a lot. But then I really started to toy with the idea and realized that I have a ton of favorite books from favorite authors and I usually only dedicate my love to one of their books. I mean you all know I LOVE Anna and the French Kiss. But do you know that I heart Isla and the Happily Ever After almost as much? Probably not because I devout my time to Anna love.

So here is my list. 7 of my favorite authors, 7 of some of my favorite books that I don’t talk about, that I’m quiet on but still think they deserve all the love.

isla

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins: This book just made me feel things. It was the end yet it felt like a beginning and reminded me what I loved about reading YA and Stephanie Perkin. I still smile when I think about certain scenes and I will forever be grateful for this amazing companion series. You all know I love Anna and the French Kiss, but I truly love Isla and the Happily Ever After only a hair less.

bitter

Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler: I don’t hear a lot of people talk about this book (myself included). Typically it is all about Twenty Boy Summer or The Summer of Chasing Mermaids. But Sarah wrote a fantastic book about cupcakes and ice skating and falling in love that I adored. Fair warning…you will want ALL THE CUPCAKES after.

Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally: I talk a lot about Breathe, Annie, Breathe. That book will always be special to me. It was the first time I BETA read, it was the first time my name was in a published books acknowledgments and the first time I was listed as a reviewer under Editorial Reviews on Amazon. But my love for Miranda started somewhere and it started with this gem Catching Jordan. The book was perfection and showed what girls can do. Plus Sam Henry was the first Kenneally boy I fell in love with.

startofmeyou

The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord: I talk a lot about Open Road Summer (Matt Finch!!!!!!!!!!!) and When We Collided (I got to read an early early copy to be blurbed) but I don’t talk about Emery’s 2nd book The Start of Me and You as often and that is shameful because it is brilliant. It is beautiful and poignant and has that great friendship vibe that is a rare find in YA. Really I sometimes think I love it even more than Open Road Summer. It’s a book that should not be ignored.

somethingreal

Something Real by Heather Demetrios: I read Heather’s second book, I’ll Meet You There, in August 2014 thanks to a giveaway win. I immediately fell in love with it. It was my kind of book and I loved the agony and heartache and the love in it. But I fell in love with another Heather book first and it was Something Real. A book that took the reality TV craze and made it into a great story and that gave us Patrick.

before

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver: Delirium is my all time favorite Lauren Oliver book. It is the perfect mix of dystopian contemporary. But before Delirium came Before I Fall and it is a fantastic book I don’t talk about enough. It’s a great mix of reality with a hint of sci-fi. I insanely loved it.

freefall

Free to Fall by Lauren Miller: Okay, I love Lauren’s first book Parallel. It was smart and heartfelt and real. It brought my love for parallel life stories to the forefront. It’s a book that I think everyone should read. But her 2nd book Free to Fall is just as amazing. She took a current idea of technology and made it into a story that will keep you wonder and guessing and just make you think. I talk about Parallel often but I should give Free to Fall just as much love (as should you).

So there you have my 7 books that I should devout more love to because they are that good. Do you have any books like that? Have you read any I have mentioned?

  1. I really love hearing about “quiet” YA novels, especially because it’s nice to read stuff sometimes that I don’t see talked about a lot in our blogging community. I definitely want to check out Parallel and Free to Fall; I still haven’t read any of this author’s books! As for my favorite “quiet” YA recs, I’d go with anything by Corey Ann Haydu, Love and Other Foreign Words + Rites of Passage. I really enjoyed all of them!

  2. Catching Jordan was the first Miranda book I read and I loved it! And as much as I enjoyed Open Road Summer, The Start of Me and You is my favorite šŸ™‚ I still need to read Isla, hoping to this month! I’m trying to think if I have authors like this…. not much is springing to mind. I do have quiet recs but they’re not necessarily from favorite or very prolific authors. I adore The Treachery of Beautiful Things, Entwined, For Darkness Shows The Stars, Meant to Be, The Art of Lainey, The Nethergrim, The Boleyn King, and quite a few others.
