Accessory: Two State Love necklace from InitialNecklaces on Etsy
I found this adorable necklace on an old Buzzfeed list of gifts for long-distance best friends, which definitely fits because I have best friends in a few different states, but also, I realized I wanted one just for me. I grew up in Tennessee, and I loved it. My parents still live in the house they bought when I was three, and my room still looks the same, unicorn wallpaper and all. I spent over 20 years in Tennessee, and I still call it home sometimes. But…I’ve also fallen in love with Texas. There’s a lot of culture here, and I love to visit other places throughout the state, usually on my way to or from a book event in one city or another. Moving to Texas is what made me start my blog, and although I didn’t know it when I moved, Texas has a wonderful and welcoming YA community. So it’s home now too. You know what they say: home is where the heart is, and now, my heart belongs in two places.

Book: The Rose and the Dagger by Renée Ahdieh
The Wrath and the Dawn was one of my most anticipated reads of 2015, and it SO lived up to it. A year later, the sequel is in the same position. The writing is lush and full of imagery that heightened all my senses. The banquet scene seriously made me hungry, and I wanted to touch everything Shazi talks about. Speaking of Shazi, I respect her gumption and her loyalty to her friends and family. She’s a bold character, but she’s not always right. Khalid has plenty of flaws, but he’s also super swoony, and he luuuurves Shazi. I ship them SO hard. Wrath is a really intense book, but there’s plenty of humor too, thanks to supporting characters Despina, Jalal, and Rahim. Since Wrath ends on kind of a crazy note, I know The Rose and the Dagger is going to be action-packed as Shazi and Khalid each try to save their kingdom…and each other. It’s sure to be a thrilling and emotionally-devastating (in the best way) finale to their story, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

Clothing: Modcloth Exquisite Elegance Dress
I know there are a lot of people out there who hate lace. I am not one of them. Lace, as long as it’s done well, is elegant and classic. I’m a big fan of fit and flare, and I also like that this dress has sleeves. I always wear cardigans and shrugs, but that would be a crime against a dress as lovely as this. While I typically prefer bolder jewel tones, there’s something special about an understated color such as this lavender/grey tone. Sadly, I have a hard time justifying dresses over $100 so I’ll just sit here and have an unhealthy relationship with my computer screen as I lust over this gorgeous gown.
