Who booked a date this week? Kim from Book Munchies.
Hi guys!! I’m so excited to join you for Book a Date because I’m Capital “O” – Obsessed with Your Name aka Kimi no Na Wa. It’s a Japanese anime film directed by Makoto Shinkai, who also directed 5 Centimeters Per Second.
Your Name is about when the day the stars fell and two lives changed forever. High schoolers Mitsuha and Taki are complete strangers living separate lives. But one night, they suddenly switch places. Mitsuha wakes up in Taki’s body, and he in hers. This bizarre occurrence continues to happen randomly, and the two must adjust their lives around each other. Yet, somehow, it works. They build a connection and communicate by leaving notes, messages, and more importantly, an imprint.
When a dazzling comet lights up the night’s sky, something shifts, and they seek each other out wanting something more—a chance to finally meet. But try as they might, something more daunting than distance prevents them. Is the string of fate between Mitsuha and Taki strong enough to bring them together, or will forces outside their control leave them forever separated?
Here’s the English dubbed trailer for your viewing pleasure:
This movie actually came out in Japan in 2016, but only just hit theaters in the USA in the last month (April 2017). It was the anime movie of last year, according to the numbers, and the fervor isn’t dying down. Which is completely understandable because the film was meticulously & beautifully drawn and the story is a well thought out delight. I’m even obsessing over the soundtrack, which luckily is on Google Play Music for me to put on repeat. (Go check it out! Look for “Your Name” and “Radwimps”. They have English and Japanese versions of the songs!)
I can’t wait for this to come out on DVD/Blu-Ray so I can own it and watch it over and over again. (And force friends to watch with me, because everyone needs to see this movie!) There’s been announcements that Amazon UK listed the release for October 2017, so I’m hoping Amazon US will do something similar. Fingers crossed, everyone will be able to get their own copy by the end of 2017!
As a bonus, here’s a video of the Japanese Mitsuha voice actress covering one of the songs from the soundtrack!
Thanks Kim for Booking a Date!
