Challenge Updates: August Check-In

checkin

Along with my Goodreads Challenge (you can find my progress on the side bar) I also challenged myself to 2 other challenges for 2015. Every month I will check in with my challenge updates.

Re-Read Challenge

Back in December I signed up for The Re-Read Challenge hosted by Belle of the Literati and So Obsessed With. Honestly I didn’t expect this to be a problem and so far it hasn’t. I’m on track to reach my goal of 12-14 books without a hitch. My August rereads:

norereadsBasically I sucked in July and I sucked in August. I really need to get back on my reread love train!

flightsoffantasy

I also committed the the Flights of Fantasy challenge run by Alexa Love Books and Hello, Chelly. As you may have heard, I am new to the fantasy genre (thank you Sarah J. Maas and Throne of Glass for this!) and I thought it would be good for me to challenge myself with this one. I have decided to do 12 so I only have to read 1 a month. My August fantasy reads:

harry4

Title: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Author: J.K. Rowling
Date Read: August 16, 2015 – August 24, 2015
Type: Kindle Borrow

After a slow start Goblet of Fire is currently my favorite of the 4 Harry Potter books I have read. I found this story way more interesting after the 3 million pages of Quidditch that wasn’t needed. I look forward to eventually reading the 5th book and the rest of the series.

incarnate

Title: Incarnate (Newsoul series)
Author: Jodi Meadows
Date Read: August 27, 2015 – August 29, 2015
Type: Paperback

I have been meaning to read Incarnate for a while now. A friend suggested reading it together so it finally happened. I really enjoyed it. Sam is ♥♥♥♥ and I loved Ana trying to figure out who she is. I have a small theory about Ana but we will see if that play outs. I look forward to finishing the series.

I did better than I thought I did with my August fantasy reads. Down to the wire, but reading 2 is a score for me. I know for a fact that September will have one with Queen of Shadows happening tomorrow, but if a Maas book is all I read in September, that is an okay way to go out.

harry3

Title: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Author: J.K. Rowling
Date Read: July 5, 2015 – July 12, 2015
Type: Kindle Borrow

I had been planning to continue on with Harry Potter for a while and just never got around to it. I made a deal with a friend that I would read books 3 and 4 so I read 3 in June. Not my favorite of the 3 I have read so far but not awful either. I will finish this series if it kills me.

I was terrible in July. I am going to blame summer as I have been in the mood for romance and fun in the sun and mystery. August will probably be more of the same to an extent but I do want to reread Heir of Fire and I’m supposed to read Incarnate with a friend. We’ll see how it goes.

How did your challenges go for July?

froi

Title: Froi of the Exiles
Author: Melina Marchetta
Date Reread: May 18, 2015 – June 10, 2015
Type: Audio Book (it’s a long one)

I almost didn’t read this book. That is my dark confession. And now I have read it twice and have fallen in love with Froi and the land Marchetta created even more than before. I can’t stress enough how Froi is the best literary character ever. Definitely not a series to miss. REVIEW

jessesgirl

Title: Jesse’s Girl
Author: Miranda Kenneally
Date Reread: June 8, 2015 – June 11, 2015
Type: eARC

It had been a while since I first read this one. Actually when I read Jesse’s Girl the first time it had a different title. Either way it was awesome both times around. I love the humor and the characters that Kenneally puts in her books. Not to mention Jesse was adorable. REVIEW

wrath

Title:
The Wrath and the Dawn
Author: Renee Ahdieh
Date Read: May 21, 2015 – June 1, 2015
Type: ARC

I read this book at a poor time as BEA happened in the middle so I took a huge chunk of time off from reading. All in all I really enjoyed it. There are a few slow parts but I liked the story. Excited to see where it will go in the next book. Review to come.

All in all not too bad for June. I did a lot of contemporary reading as I usually do in the summer and not much rereading. I do have plans to read Anna again and Quintana. Oh and Parallel by Lauren Miller. How did you June challenges go?

court

Title: A Court of Thorns and Roses
Author: Sarah J. Maas
Date Reread: May 2, 2015 – May 18, 2015
Type: Audio Book

I started this reread in a physical copy of the book. But then I had some stuff come up and I switched the audio. The audio was really enjoyable. It has the same narrator as The Girl of Fire and Thorns and I liked that audio too. I just really love this book in general though so it was nice to get a reread done since I read it so long ago. whiterose

Title: The White Rose (The Lone City series)
Author: Amy Ewing
Date Read: May 16, 2015 – May 20, 2015
Type: ARC (gifted from author)

I was addicted to The Jewel so I was extra happy when Amy shared not only the title with me early but was kind and sent me an ARC. And ut was just as addicting as the first book. That I can attest to. Review will show up eventually.

I didn’t read as much in May as I hoped. I’m not really sure why. I may be because of BEA or just life in general. I am in the middle of a reard of Froi of the Exiles which will be on hold until June but I’m okay with it. After Froi I will listen to Quintana. And I have an itch to read Anna and the French Kiss for time number 11. We’ll see.

So there you have it, my May check-in. How did you do on your challenges so far?

15 Day Book Blogging Challenge

So when I was away last week/early this week, Amanda at Maestra Amanda’s Bookshelf tweeted about a 15 Day Book Blogging Challenge hosted by Good Books and Good Wine. Since I was away I wasn’t able to start when the challenge was actually beginning, but the good thing about this one was that it was stated that you could start whenever. So after talking it over with Amanda we decided we would do it together and we will begin said challenge on July 22nd so it will be completed before I go on my cruise and Amanda starts up school again(shh, we aren’t discussing this since that means fall, which means winter, which means sadness!).

And now I’m sure you are wondering why I’m posting about this now. Well that’s easy, because this is where you come in. We want you to join us in taking part in this challenge. Because really challenges are only fun if you have some buddy’s doing them with you.

15-Day-ChallengeDoesn’t it look fun? I think it looks like an interesting way to get to know your fellow bloggers. And if you want more information, here is the link to the actual post on Good Books and Good Wine.  Let’s do this thing!

What say you ABCers, who’s in? Who wants to join us and take part in this fun challenge about Book Blogging? If you’re interested comment, tweet us, email us, whatever you would like.
