The Maxi Dress

The Maxi Dress

The maxi dress is a major, major obsession of mine in the summer. It is one of the most versatile pieces in a wardrobe. Work, errands, day with the girls, even the pool. A maxi dress works for just about every occasion you could think of. And it is a great piece for every and any body type. Not to mention how easy it is to throw on and style. Last year I went on a binge maxi dress shopping spree and will most likely do the same again this year. It is my go to spring/summer look and I’m not ashamed to say it.

Below I took the dress I’m lusting over most for Dorothy Perkins(sadly they don’t have my size:-( ) and styled it three ways I would wear it for three kind of situations.

Interview Style

A friend has an interview next week and requested I try to pull together some interview wear. Now I must admit it has been 15 years since I had to go on an interview so I am a tad out of practice. But as the HR department at my place of business I styled looks based on what I would personally find acceptable. The main thing really to avoid when it comes to dressing for an interview is trends. You want to remain as classic as possible, but can include some interest like color and pattern and even texture. Just make sure the patter is appropriate and dress based on where you are interviewing. If you are interviewing at say, a law firm, I would be as neutral as possible. But if you are interviewing at a less professional place, definitely brighten things up a tad. Also fit is important. Whatever you do end up wearing make sure it isn’t too tight, low cut or too baggy. This is you chance to make a great first impression. If you feel good in what you have on, others will take notice.

Petite Style

So last week I posted 3 Plus Size Style options based off a request. I had so much fun doing that I decided to do a Petite Style version for my shorty friends(I say that with love since my mom is under 5 feet as are two of my best friends). 🙂

So when looking at petite clothing options I found a few stores that seem to carry their items in a petite option. Old Navy, The Loft, The Gap and Target, to name a few, all had a great selection of items. I tried to pull together a mix of what I found to give petite people a few ideas. I know that proportion is key and so is fit not matter what size so also don’t be afraid to go to a tailor to get something done just right.

Okay, enough babble, on to the clothes:

And there you have it. A few style options for you tiny peeps. Now tell me, what do you normally do when shopping? What are your go to stores/items?
