Thirteen Days of Ash and Fire: An Heir of Fire Blog Tour Day 10 + GIVEAWAY

As a newbie lover to the Throne of Glass series, I read all three books this summer, I was delighted when I was asked by Alexa from Alexa Loves Books, Rachel from Hello Chelly, Judith from Paper Riot, Katie from Polished Page-Turners, and Jaz from Fiction in Fiction in Fiction to take part in the Thirteen Days of Ash and Fire Tour to help celebrate the release of Sarah J. Maas’ newest book in the series, Heir of Fire with the other 12 fabulous bloggers on the following schedule.

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
Series: Throne of Glass #3
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Publication Date: September 2, 2014
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.

While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?

I wasn’t really sure what I was going to do for my stop on the tour. I haven’t posted my review for Heir of Fire yet so I thought about doing that but it just seemed too dull. So then I started to brainstorm and I came up with what I always like to do, dress the character(s). So I decided to dress Celaena Sardothien.

The Assassin
Celaena is an assassin. She kills people for a living and has for a very long time. That is what she has been trained to do. She’s hardcore and she would look hardcore. When pulling her look together I went for leather and lots of it. Since she needs to be able to move I found pants that also had some stretch to them and flat boots of course. And no assassin is any good without their sword. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to meet her in a dark alley.

celaena3The Lady
The other side of Celaena is the girly side and that I love about her. She has killed and maimed more people than she could count. She has a reputation of being a cold blooded killer. But she is also a girl. She loves pretty things; dresses, shoes, jewelry. She has to hide that part of herself but it is still there. Because of that I chose a blue dress with sparkle detail and gold accents. Celaena would want people to notice her, but would also want to be able to blend in. I felt this dress fit that part perfectly and would work for any of the events at the palace.

So there you have it, the two sides of Celaena Sardothien. She is definitely a puzzle and grows into a bigger and bigger one with every book.

And that brings us to the GIVEAWAY. The Bloombury has kindly offered to giveaway copies of Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, The Assassin’s Blade & Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Isla is Coming…actually Isla is HERE!

bannerIt’s here! Finally after years of waiting Isla is here and I’m sure most, if not all of you, now have your hands on the pretty. I was lucky enough to get to read it early, but I’m having fun reading it again with all of you.

Anyway, today is my day on the #IslaIsComing blog tour. It’s been a lot of fun to host this with Jamie, Judith, Lindsey, and Meg, and to see all of the fun you all have had participating whether it was in the blog tour or the readalong. We are in the home stretch and I can’t believe it is all almost over. But it isn’t over yet. Today I get to do the thing that I love to do besides reading. I get to “shop”. More accurately, play stylist to my three favorite book ladies, Anna, Lola and Isla.

When I reviewed Anna on my blog for the first time I was inspired to dress her in what I thought she would wear. I pulled all the things I new about her and created an outfit that I find to be so totally Anna. Well when I was thinking about what I wanted to do for my stop on the tour I decided why stop at Anna, why not dress all three girls. And if I was dressing all three, might as well give Anna something new to wear.

Without further ado, the looks:

We all know that Anna likes comfort. She wears sneaker (not white!), graphic tees, and carries a notebook. She is her own kind of quirky and has a blonde stripe in her dark hair to prove it. What better look for Anna than an ironic shirt that says “Striped Shirt” instead of actually being a striped shirt. And she would totally rock the mint green Converse. And she can’t go anywhere without those Thin Mints.

Oh our little Lola and her costume-like style. I admit, I don’t feel like I “know” Lola like I know Anna. Her style definitely isn’t anything I would ever attempt, but I like that she is her own person. When I started to search for this look I immediately knew I needed a wig and something that would pass as wearable. I can actually picture Lola in this look which makes me happy with the result. Plus the dress is kind of adorable. I chose the pie earrings for her dad’s pie business and Lola loves her rain boots.

Isla is someone we are all getting to know just know. For those of you that have read the book already you will understand why I chose what I did. Isla is a girly girl and loves a heel. I don’t want to give away too much about why these item were selected, but this look may be my favorite of the bunch.

So there you have it, my stop on the #IslaIsComing tour. I had a lot of fun doing this and checking out everyone elses stops. If you are interested check out the list below and see who is the next stop.

From the bestselling author of Catching Jordan comes a contemporary YA you won't forget.

The finish line is only the beginning.…

Annie hates running. No matter how far she jogs, she can't escape the guilt that if she hadn't broken up with Kyle, he might still be alive. So to honor his memory, she starts preparing for the marathon he intended to race.

But the training is even more grueling than Annie could have imagined. Despite her coaching, she's at war with her body, her mind-and her heart. With every mile that athletic Jeremiah cheers her on, she grows more conflicted. She wants to run into his arms...and sprint in the opposite direction. For Annie, opening up to love again may be even more of a challenge than crossing the finish line.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

First and foremost I will state of the bat that I was lucky enough to read a very, very early draft version of this book that was sent to me by the author. I say this because I want it clear that the opinion I have on this book was not swayed by any shape or form by the opportunity to be a BETA reader. These thoughts are my thoughts and my thoughts alone.

With that out of the way I can tell you that Breathe, Annie, Breathe is the MOST FANTASTIC book that Miranda Kenneally has ever written. It had emotion and a beautiful story and fantastic writing. It had all the things I have come to expect from a Kenneally book but on a level that was different from her other books. Breathe, Annie, Breathe is definitely a heavier subject since it deals with death and guilt and being left behind, but Kenneally hit it out of the park with this one and showed the depth of her writing.

Breathe, Annie, Breathe is the story of, you guessed it, Annie. Annie is training to run a marathon to honor her boyfriend who unexpectedly died. Filled with anger and sadness and guilt, Annie decides to honor Kyle’s memory and to do the thing he dreamed of doing and never did, run all 26 miles. With the help of some familiar faces (see the first books in the Hundred Oaks series) Annie begins training and trying to start a life that doesn’t involve Kyle. What Annie didn’t expect though was the attraction she feels to her trainer’s younger brother Jeremiah. And as Annie and Jere get closer Annie has to make a decision just where she wants her life to actually go.

This book is really hard to put into words to show how really good it is. What I can say is that it was really poignant. My heart just broke for Annie. Here she was this 17-year-old girl that had her whole life to look forward to. She was going to college and was going to make something of herself. And the rug was pulled right under her when her boyfriend died. Sure she was still going to go to college and have a career, but Kyle was supposed to be by her side for all of it and then he was just gone. I can’t imagine what that would be like at my age never mind for a 17-year-old that thinks her boyfriend is the be all and end-all of her life. Even feeling so lost Annie did the one thing she could think of and that was to run because that was what Kyle liked to do and had dreamed of running a full marathon. Actually, the running was what I really admired about Annie because it ended up symbolizing two things. It symbolized her love for Kyle and it symbolized her having enough guts to keep on going even when the wind was knocked out of her. And in a weird way, it was Kyle telling her it was okay to move on in the direction of college and life. And he brought her to Jeremiah who changed her in a way she never saw coming.

Ah, Jeremiah Brown. What do I even say about him??!! I loved him for the brief time we saw him in Things I Can’t Forget so I was over the moon when I found out he was the “hot Kenneally boy” (that is a technical term!) in Breathe, Annie, Breathe. And trust me when I say hot he was. But he was also really sweet and patient and caring. He was pretty much a typical boy with his competitiveness and his need for a rush, but he also took thought when it came to other people’s fears and worry for him. And he was the PERFECT counterpart for Annie. She was terrified of losing someone else she loves so she held back, especially after learning about his love of extreme sports and danger. But Jere was also able to teach Annie a lot more about herself through his love of the rush. Basically, they had major chemistry and that is all I’m going to say about that.

Simply put, Breathe, Annie, Breathe was phenomenal. I’ve now read it twice and it got even better the second time which was hard to do. Kenneally put her heart and soul into this book and wrote a winner. It was one of those books that I just laughed and cried and smiled and sniffled over. It was 100% Miranda Kenneally and it was 100% awesome. Can’t wait for her next masterpiece.

About Miranda Kenneally

Growing up in Tennessee, Miranda Kenneally dreamed of becoming an Atlanta Brave, a country singer (cliché!), or a UN interpreter. Instead she writes, and works for the State Department in Washington, D.C., where George W. Bush once used her shoulder as an armrest. Miranda loves Twitter, Star Trek and her husband.

And because this book is so awesome here is your chance to win a copy for yourself or a BN gift card for $50. Just click on the picture below to enter! US/Canada ONLY. Ends July 29, 2014.

First Loves Blog Tour

I was asked by the lovely people at Bloomsbury if I wanted to join the First Loves Blog Tour which celebrates 5 incredible authors and their 2014 book releases. Basically the answer was duh and so you have today’s post. I was able to ask all 5 lovely ladies one question for them to answer. After spending some time thinking about it and reading up on each book I started to think about travel and how everyone loves to travel or has a vacation spot they love. And from this line of thinking I came up with my question for this authors:

About The Chapel Wars:
Sixteen-year-old Holly wants to remember her Grandpa forever, but she’d rather forget what he left her in his will: his wedding chapel on the Las Vegas strip. Whatever happened to gold watches, savings bonds, or some normal inheritance?

And then there’s Grandpa’s letter. Not only is Holly running the business with her recently divorced parents, but she needs to make some serious money—fast. Grandpa also insists Holly reach out to Dax, the grandson of her family’s mortal enemy and owner of the cheesy chapel next door. No matter how cute Dax is, Holly needs to stay focused: on her group of guy friends, her disjointed family, work, school and… Dax. No wait, not Dax.

Holly’s chapel represents everything she’s ever loved in her past. Dax might be everything she could ever love in the future. But as for right now, there’s a wedding chapel to save.

hawaiiANSWER: HAWAII. My dad was born in Honolulu, and my parents visit at least twice a year. I always thought it was weird they went there instead of exploring the world, but I went there to do some book research/relax last summer. We took a helicopter tour of Kauai and I thought, yeah. This is it. All I need is Hawaii.

About Open Road Summer:
After breaking up with her bad-news boyfriend, Reagan O’Neill is ready to leave her rebellious ways behind. . . and her best friend, country superstar Lilah Montgomery, is nursing a broken heart of her own. Fortunately, Lilah’s 24-city tour is about to kick off, offering a perfect opportunity for a girls-only summer of break-up ballads and healing hearts. But when Matt Finch joins the tour as its opening act, his boy-next-door charm proves difficult for Reagan to resist, despite her vow to live a drama-free existence. This summer, Reagan and Lilah will navigate the ups and downs of fame and friendship as they come to see that giving your heart to the right person is always a risk worth taking. A fresh new voice in contemporary romance, Emery Lord’s gorgeous writing hits all the right notes.

?????????????????????????????????????????????ANSWER: The UK! My dad’s from England, and a lot of our family is still there. So, I’d get to see them more often and eat fish and chips, heavy on the vinegar. I could watch soccer at White Hart Lane, drink great beer, prowl book shops, take in the impossible greenness of The Cotswolds, stand on the coastline at the Cliffs of Dover. Plus, ya know, there’s so much literary tourism in the UK 😉

About Wish You Were Italian:
Pippa has always wanted to go to Italy … but not by herself. And certainly not to sit in art school the entire summer learning about dead guys’ paintings. When she steps off the plane in Rome, she realizes that traveling solo gives her the freedom to do whatever she wants. So it’s arrivederci, boring art program and ciao, hot Italian guys!

Charming, daring, and romantic, Bruno is just the Italian Pippa’s looking for—except she keeps running into cute American archeology student Darren everywhere she goes. Pippa may be determined to fall in love with an Italian guy … but the electricity she feels with Darren says her heart might have other plans. Can Pippa figure out her feelings before her parents discover she left the program and—even worse—she loses her chance at love?

italyANSWER: The Cinque Terre, Italy. Surprise! My love for this portion of the Italian Riviera is why I chose it as the setting of Wish You Were Italian. The views of crystal blue water from cliff side trails are unlike any I’ve seen, the food is fresh and full of local flavors, the atmosphere is calming. It’s a dream to rent an apartment in one of the villages for a month or so to write, paint, hike, and most importantly, eat gelato twice a day.

About Searching for Sky:
Sky and River have always lived on Island, the only world they’ve ever known. Until the day River spots a boat. Across Ocean, in a place called California, Sky is separated from River and forced to live with a grandmother she’s just met. Here the rules for survival are different. People rely on strange things like cars and cell phones. They keep secrets from one another. And without River, nothing makes sense. Sky yearns for her old life where she was strong and capable, not lost and confused. She must find River so they can return to Island, but the truth behind how they ended up there in the first place will come as the biggest shock of all.

phillyANSWER: I know how my character Sky in Searching for Sky would answer this question. She would return to Island, of course, which is the small deserted island in the South Pacific where she grew up, before she was rescued and taken back to California. She would want to go back there because it feels safe for her and it feels like home, unlike our modern world which is scary and filled with things she doesn’t understand. Like Sky, I always tend to like the feeling of “home” rather than the feeling of vacation, and I think the best trips are ones when I get to spend time with family. For that reason, I would say Philadelphia, which is where I grew up and where much of my family still lives. If we’re talking about purely relaxing, though, I would say the beach – any beach, anywhere. There’s nothing better than lying on the beach reading a great book!

About Fool Me Twice:
Mackenzie and Landon were the perfect couple . . . until he dumped her and broke her heart. Fast-forward a year and they’re back where they first met—Serenity Ranch and Spa, where they are once again working together for the summer. Talk about awkward.

Then, Landon takes a nasty fall and gets amnesia. Suddenly, he’s stuck in the past—literally. His most recent memory is of last summer, when he and Mack were still together, so now he’s calling her pet names and hanging all over her. It’s the perfect chance for revenge. The plan is simple: keep Landon at arm’s length, manipulate him so he’s the one falling love, and then BAM, dump him. There’s just one problem: Mack can’t fall for Landon all over again.

ANSWER: This answer would be SO EASY if I was not a parent-I absolutely love and adore Las Vegas and try to go as often as I can. But since I have a young daughter, I’d have to go with a family location-we take her to California once a year. Her excitement caliand enthusiasm makes everything that much more fun! Even just riding in the shuttle from the parking lots to the airport is exciting to her.

Special thanks to all 5 of these authors for taking the time to answer my question and Bloomsbury for asking and putting this together.
