The ABCs with Anna from Anna and the French Kiss (Andi Style)

Welcome to The ABCs where you can see what accessory, book and clothing item others are lusting after! If you would like more information or would like to sign-up you can click HERE. I’ve also created a place for authors to sign-up and do the ABCs for one of their main characters. Check that out HERE.

Today we have me doing The ABCs but for my favorite character Anna Oliphant from Anna and the French Kiss. You all know I love the book. You all know I have read the book a dozen times. You all know I have the book just about memorized. Figured I would pick some things I think Anna would love and share.

Accessory: Kate Spade Film Strip Scarf
Anna is a huge film buff. She loves everything there is to love about cinema so it would be natural for her to want this scarf when she goes and visits Paris to see friends and the like. Plus I think blue would look good on her.

Books: 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die
This is a takes Anna would happily take on (and would probably already be half done). She would see the best movies and the worst movies and still feel really good about it because she just loves the movies and everything involved. I can guarantee there would be a blog feature following her as she watched all 1001 movies.

Clothes: Macaron T-Shirt
The thing about Anna is she doesn’t take herself seriously and loves a good graphic tee. She would proudly rock this one as a remembrance of her time in Paris and things she loved about the city.

Thanks “Anna” for playing! I hope I did the character proud.

If you would like to play like Anna/I did, sign-ups are open HERE.

Blog Tour – The Mirror King by Jodi Meadow: The ABCs (+ a Giveaway)

Today on the blog tour for The Mirror King I have Jodi Meadows guest posting The ABCs for Wilhelmina.  Wil is a pretty straightforward girl that has some items that you know are her as soon as you see them. Welcome Jodi (and by extension, Wil) to the blog.

Accessory: Daggers.
I mean, Wilhelmina already has daggers, but what girl doesn’t need more weapons? Wil’s current daggers are perfectly serviceable, and she’s pretty attached to them, given all they’ve been through together, but if she were to have new daggers, perhaps they’d have fine ebony hilts, some sort of design etched into the tang and up into the blade. It would, perhaps, be ospreys in flight. Oh, and they’d be sharp.

Book: A new blank notebook.
Wil likes to read, sure, but she also likes to write. And by write, I mean she likes to steal handwriting and practice using it. Why not in a nice notebook? But Wil also keeps a diary, and the one she’s been using since she was young is getting pretty full. She deserves a new one after all this time. The main requirement for this is that the notebook have really nice paper. Wilhelmina is definitely a paper snob.

Clothes: A cloak.
So, the cloak on the cover of THE ORPHAN QUEEN was never actually in the book. And on THE MIRROR KING cover there are two cloaks, so in THE MIRROR KING I actually do give Wil a cloak. Clearly she wanted one. But for sneaking purposes, rather than cover purposes, Wil would probably like a black or dark gray cloak. Something to help her blend into the night.

Wilhelmina has a hundred enemies.

HER FRIENDS HAVE TURNED. After her identity is revealed during the Inundation, Princess Wilhelmina is kept prisoner by the Indigo Kingdom, with the Ospreys lost somewhere in the devastated city. When the Ospreys’ leader emerges at the worst possible moment, leaving Wil’s biggest ally on his deathbed, she must become Black Knife to set things right.

HER MAGIC IS UNCONTROLLABLE. Wil’s power is to animate, not to give true life, but in the wraithland she commanded a cloud of wraith mist to save herself, and later ordered it solid. Now there is a living boy made of wraith—destructive and deadly, and willing to do anything for her.

HER HEART IS TORN. Though she’s ready for her crown, declaring herself queen means war. Caught between what she wants and what is right, Wilhelmina realizes the throne might not even matter. Everyone thought the wraith was years off, but already it’s destroying Indigo Kingdom villages. If she can’t protect both kingdoms, soon there won’t be a land to rule.

In this stunning conclusion to THE ORPHAN QUEEN, Jodi Meadows follows Wilhelmina’s breathtaking and brave journey from orphaned criminal on the streets to magic-wielding queen.

Blog Tour: The ABCs with Denver from The Lifeboat Clique (Kathy Parks)

Today we have a special edition of The ABCs brought to you by Kathy Parks for her character Denver in her new book The Lifeboat Clique. Make sure you read all the way to the end to enter the giveaway.

Hi, it’s Denver Reynolds from The Lifeboat Clique. You know my shopping needs changed drastically once a tsunami washed me out to sea.

For example, accessories.

When attempting to avoid the glare of both the sun and your ex-best friend, try these polarized Fisherman sunglasses:

I know they’re super expensive but a water-deprived, hallucinating girl at sea can dream, can’t she?

As for books, this book on survival comes in very handy during times like these, and it’s very entertaining and fascinating to read:

But no enforced sea vacation after an act of God would be complete without this valuable piece of clothing with an SPF of 50 to keep your skin from burning. Yes, it’s a little loud but it helps when you’re trying to attract passing ships:

Thanks so much, and tell the Coast Guard I said hello!

Some people might say that Denver had a death wish. Why else would she have dared to sneak into a Malibu beach party where she’d be surrounded by enemies, namely including her ex-BFF Abigail?

Oh yeah. Croix. Denver never thought in a million years he’d ask her out, but who was she to question this miracle of fate? Well, that wasn’t the only surprise fate had in store.

During the party a tsunami hit the coast of California, wiping out everything in its path. Denver and a handful of others escaped death by holding onto the roof of the house and were swept out to sea. Of course, one of her fellow castaways was none other than Abigail, who could barely stand the sight of her.

Now that she’s floating in the ocean, stuck on a small boat with the most popular kids in school and waiting to be rescued, Denver wonders what might kill her first-dehydration, sunstroke, or the girl she used to think of as a sister?

A hilariously dark and twisted story that sparkles with a remarkably fresh voice, The Lifeboat Clique is Kathy Park’s irreverent yet insightful novel about how to survive in the most unthinkable circumstances.

The ABCs with Abby Berman from The Distance from A to Z (Natalie Blitt) + a Giveaway

Welcome to the ABCs, Character Edition.   Weekly this feature has always been a place for bloggers, readers, publicists and authors to show off there ABCs. Well Now the ABCs are also opened for authors to show off the ABCs for their main characters. You can still sign-up to post your own picks HERE or if you have a main character that wants to get in on the fun, sign-up HERE.

Today we have Abby Berman  from Natalie Blitt‘s book The Distance from A to Z sharing with us the accessories, books and clothes she is lusting after.

Let’s give a warm ABCers welcome to Abby to the ABCs, (and Natalie)!

I’m so excited to be doing an ABC for Abby Berman, the main character in The Distance From A to Z. Truthfully, one of the problems with writing a book is that once it’s done, you can’t play with the characters anymore. But getting to “dress” and “style” Abby brought me right back into her world, and it was such a treat to go back to living with her in my head as I “pretend” she’s not someone I actually know.

So here’s what I’ve got!

Accessory: French coffee cups
I won’t lie: there’s a lot of coffee drinking in this book. Abby loves coffee, as does her roommate Alice. And there’s a special scene that involves creating mugs with special quotes on them. I think that if Abby knew about these mugs she would definitely buy them, and then worry about giving one to Zeke. And think it’s silly that she bought them. And then take them out of the box to admire them over and over again. And then decide she’s just keeping both. And then give one to Zeke. And then… well, you know.

Books: TWO SUMMERS by Aimee Friedman
In real life, I have a massive author crush on Aimee Friedman. But I think this book in particular would really appeal to Abby, and not just because it’s all about spending the summer in France. Abby knows very well what it’s like to be pulled between two different “worlds,” and two different locations. Her life feels divided between her life in Chicago and the life she imagines she’d lead if she lived in France. And at the end of the book… well, the issue of geography comes back. I can imagine this as the type of book that Abby would adore and read over and over again.

Clothes: Haters gonna hate t-shirt from Busted Tees.
This one is kind of a no brainer since I actually used it as inspiration and it appears in the book. Let’s just say, Abby really likes it and it has a special meaning for her and Zeke. But clothing and funny t-shirts in particular hold a special place of honor in this book. I wish I could just make a listing of all the t-shirts I dreamed up or found online.

Thanks Abby (and Natalie) for playing!

If you would like to play like Abby (and Natalie) did, sign-ups are open HERE.

Also Natalie has been kind enough to offer one winner an eBook of The Distance from A to Z. The giveaway is US ONLY. The prize will come directly from the author so if you should win your email address will be shared with the author. Runs until 1/27/16 12:00AM EST.

Blog Tour: The ABCs with Etta from Passenger by Alexandra Bracken (giveaway)

Today we have a special edition of The ABCs brought to you by Alexandra Bracken for her character Etta in her new book Passenger (which is out in stores tomorrow!). And make sure you read all the way to the end to enter the giveaway.

Alex Bracken: This is so fun! While Nicholas and Etta are equal parts main characters, I have to go with Etta for this one—mostly because Nicholas is way too practical (his answers here would be: a compass, an atlas, and a new pair of leather shoes after fishing Etta out of the ocean).

Etta’s a modern day teen in New York City who’s had a pretty different upbringing from most other girls her age. Her training to be a concert violinist, and all of the competitions and travel that involves, has made her have a laser-like focus on reaching that goal… pretty much to the detriment of friendships, boyfriends, and, you know, taking a day off. But her BIG debut is finally, finally, finally coming up.

Accessory: Madewell’s Transport Tote in English Saddle
This thing is a city living staple! When you live in a place like New York City, where you usually leave your apartment in the morning, travel via subway, and aren’t back until the evening—even on the weekends—you need a bag like this to throw whatever you need and gather up throughout the day. Groceries, folders from work, something else from Madewell… you name it! I can see Etta bopping around the city running errands, throwing in her music sheets, a snack, and flowers from the grocery store on the corner before walking a few blocks over to instructor Alice’s apartment. Etta is a pretty no-fuss kind of girl, so I think this suits her perfectly.

Book: Brooklyn: A Novel by Colm Toibin
On a break from her 209809234th reading of The Lives of Great Composers by Harold C. Schonberg and an endless succession of autobiographies and biographies of great musicians, Etta picked this one up after seeing someone reading it on the 4/5/6 train and fell in love with her city all over again reading it.

Clothing: Halston Heritage Cross Neck Chiffon Gown
Etta’s on the verge of her big debut as a soloist and will be in need of a few new formal dresses to rotate through for future performances. I picked this garnet color chiffon gown by Halston Heritage out for her for a few reasons: it looks comfy, it’s conservative enough not to raise any eyebrows but still cool and beautiful enough for an eighteen-year-old to wear, THAT RED IS AMAZING, and, well, she’d get a lot of mileage out of it. Our girl isn’t flashy when it comes to style—classic and understated all the way.

passage, n.i. A brief section of music composed of a series of notes and flourishes.ii. A journey by water; a voyage.iii. The transition from one place to another, across space and time.

In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.

Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods—a powerful family in the colonies—and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, Nicholas’ passenger, can find. In order to protect her, he must ensure she brings it back to them— whether she wants to or not.

Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods’ grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home . . . forever
