Blog Tour Guest Post: When Summer Ends by Jessica Pennington{GIVEAWAY}

Today is my stop of the blog tour for Jessica Pennington’s sophomore novel, When Summer Ends (out in stores now!). For my stop on the tour, Jessica is posting the ABCs for her two main characters, Aiden and Olivia. Having already read the book (you can find my review HERE), I love what she picked for both of them. It is so spot on!

Without further ado, here are the ABCs:

Accessory: Doesn’t everyone load up their canoe with art supplies?? This summer, Aiden’s taking his art into the great outdoors, to be inspired by the beautiful landscapes and hidden spots of the Michigan beach town he calls home.

Book: Art has always been something Aiden loves, but this summer he needs it to help him in so many ways. And as he adjusts to his new reality, he’ll start looking at art like he never has before.

Clothes: Aiden has had to put away his glove since unexpectedly quitting the team on the last day of school, but he’s still rocking a baseball hat. Except this one’s for River Depot, the tourist trap his family owns along the river, where he’ll be spending his summer along with his cousin Ellis (and maybe a few new friends).

Accessory:  Who doesn’t love super cute journals from Rifle Paper Company? Olivia loves to tuck these in her bag so that she’s always ready to jot something down–whether it’s an idea for the essay contest that will snag her a dream internship, or a few lines about the cute new boy she’s sitting on the beach with.

Book: Olivia spent all of her time with her ex sitting on couches and in movie theaters, but this summer, she’s finding herself immersed in the great outdoors for the first time. And a surprising amount of her time is being spent in a canoe. Her first few trips weren’t so graceful–she needs to figure out how not to look like a total klutz with Aiden Emerson sitting right behind her.

Clothes: With a new job at River Depot, renting out canoes to tourists, indoors-inclined Olivia is feeling more than a little out of her element. All she wants is a pair of cute khaki shorts for her required uniform. Unfortunately, that’s not even close to what she gets.

Aiden Emerson is an all-star pitcher and the all-around golden boy of Riverton. Or at least he was, before he quit the team the last day of junior year without any explanation. How could he tell people he's losing his vision at seventeen?

Straight-laced Olivia thought she had life all figured out. But when her dream internship falls apart, her estranged mother comes back into her life, and her long-time boyfriend ghosts her right before summer break, she's starting to think fate has a weird sense of humor.

Each struggling to find a new direction, Aiden and Olivia decide to live summer by chance. Every fleeting adventure and stolen kiss is as fragile as a coin flip in this heartfelt journey to love and self-discovery from the author of Love Songs & Other Lies.

About Jessica Pennington

Jessica Pennington is no stranger to the combination of love and drama. She’s a wedding planner, after all. A serial entrepreneur with a B.A. in public relations, Jessica has a passion for grassroots marketing. She lives in a Michigan beach town, where she owns more YA novels than many teens and spends most of her time on a laptop, rather than on a beach.

The ABCs with Skylar from I’ll Meet You There (Andi Style)

Welcome to The ABCs where you can see what accessory, book and clothing item others are lusting after! If you would like more information or would like to sign-up you can click HERE. I’ve also created a place for authors to sign-up and do the ABCs for one of their main characters. Check that out HERE.

Today we have me doing The ABCs for on of my favorite characters, Skylar, from I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios . I just finished my 3rd read of this fantastic book and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to show what I think Sky’s ABCs would be.

Accessory: Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars
Sky wears Converse sneakers through out the book. She even wears them when Dylan makes her “dress up” even though Dyl HATES them. I figured Sky would want a new pair in San Fran and I think she would want red. It isn’t a neutral but it’s a color that goes with everything and can showcase her artist soul.

Book: Storytelling with Collage
Another huge part of Skylar is her love of paper collaging. She loves telling a story with paper and glue and making it all mean something. While she is studying I would totally see her read a book about collaging to really learn everything she can about the hobby she wants to make a job.

Clothes: My Heart Belongs to A Marine tank
This is a given, well if you read the book. Sky is huge on wearing take tops in the summer, she even calls it her uniform. While away from her guy she would definitely want to show her love for him in some way, shape, or form.

Thanks “Skylar” for playing! I hope I did the character proud. (Honestly I really can picture her with all of these things.

If you would like to play like Skylar/I did, sign-ups are open HERE.

Blog Tour – Game On by Michelle Smith (Character ABCs + Giveaway)

Today on the blog we have a special edition of The ABCs brought to you by Game On by Michelle Smith. Michelle has been kind enough to do a version of The ABCs for her character Bri. Make sure you read all the way to the end to enter the giveaway.

Bri’s ABCs:

Accessories: Dean’s Amulet Necklace
Bri is a die-hard fan of Supernatural, so I’m pretty sure she’d kill for a Samulet—the amulet necklace that a young Sam is shown giving to Dean in a flashback during the Season 3 Christmas special.

Books: The Raven Boys – Maggie Stiefvater
Bri’s a bit of a science freak, but she’s a huge lover of all things mystical and whimsical and magical (see aforementioned Supernatural obsession). So I think she’d love Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Cycle series.

Bri has played soccer for years and is an avid runner, so she could happily live in sweats for the rest of her life. She’s heading to University of South Carolina after graduation, and if she could snag this sweatshirt (and somehow justify that holy-moly price-tag), I think she’d be a happy girl.

As king of baseball in the small town of Lewis Creek, Eric Perry can have any girl he wants and win every game he plays. But when a fight lands him in jail, he’s only got one more strike before his baseball career is over for good. His only chance for redemption? The girl next door, Bri Johnson.

Bri hasn’t talked to Eric in months—for starters, she’s been too busy dealing with her jerk of an ex-boyfriend, not to mention the fact that Eric’s been preoccupied trying to drink every keg in the country dry. But when he needs a way to stay on the team, she proposes a plan: if he helps her out with community service, he can stay on the team. At first it’s a nightmare—Eric and Bri stopped being friends years ago, surely that was for a good reason, right? But as volunteering turns to bonding over old memories of first kisses under the stars, they start to have trouble remembering what pushed them apart.

In a town as small as Lewis Creek, nothing stays secret for long and their friendship and romance might mean bad news. But in this final, tumultuous spring before graduation, Eric and Bri are about to realize that nobody’s perfect alone, but they might just be perfect together.

About Michelle Smith

Michelle Smith was born and raised in North Carolina, where she developed a healthy appreciation for college football, sweet tea, front porches, and a well-placed “y’all.” She’s a lover of all things happy, laughs way too much, and fully believes that a little bit of kindness goes a long way.

Michelle lives near the Carolina coast with her family.

The ABCs: Bookitcon Edition with Avery Roe (Kendall Kulper)

Today on the blog we have a special guest post from one of the fan authors from BookitCon. (To find out more about BookitCon see below.) Joining us today is Kendall Kulper, author Salt & Storm. Kendall is doing an ABCs post for her her character Avery Roe.

Accessory: Scrimshaw necklace
Avery lives on a whaling island off the coast of Massachusetts rich in history and magic. Her family has traditionally made its living crafting and selling good luck charms to sailors, so she would be all about a necklace with a beautiful charm. This particular charm is an example of scrimshaw, a kind of art form created by whalers on long sailing expeditions. Sailors took pieces of whale teeth or bone, carved images into them, then darkened the lines with ink and gave the pieces away to their friends and loved ones. There are only a handful of traditional scrimshaw artists left in the world (who, these days, work in synthetic whalebone, recycled piano key ivory, or found whalebone), making these charms extra special. (Side note: long before I wrote SALT & STORM, my favorite piece of jewelry was a scrimshaw necklace my dad bought for my mom on their honeymoon)

Book: The 1930s Random House Edition of Moby Dick
Obviously going to have to go with Moby Dick here, since Avery would love to read more about whales and whaling (and she would be intimately familiar with the real story behind Moby Dick: the sinking of the whaleship Essex by a huge, maddened whale), but I can’t just choose any copy. My favorite is the 1930s Random House edition, illustrated by Rockwell Kent, a groundbreaking artist who worked in woodblock prints. His images for Moby Dick are so stunning; gorgeous and evocative, they show an innovative and intimate style well ahead of its time. I loved these pictures so much, I paid homage to them in SALT & STORM by making one of the main characters, Tane, an artist in Kent’s style.

 Clothing: Red velvet jacket
One of my favorite parts of the redesign of SALT & STORM’s cover is the choice the designer made for Avery’s clothing. I was adamant that my strong, independent main character not just be a pretty girl in a pretty dress standing by the ocean, and so when I first saw the image of this tough (and fully covered!) girl running for a storm, I pretty much did backflips. But what I love more than anything is her cute, practical, and eye-catching little red jacket. It’s so perfect: period-appropriate, region-appropriate (hello ocean breezes), but still vibrant and reflective of Avery’s inner fire and spirit. Love it.

Dream-teller. Storm-raiser. Prisoner.

Avery Roe is her mother's captive, and she has fought her whole life to escape and take her rightful place as the witch of Prince Island. Though the island is nothing more than a windswept rock out in the ocean, the witch's power is legendary, and it is Avery's birthright. But when Avery foretells her own murder, she knows her life is about to change--many times over. Amid the swirling currents and rising storms of betrayal, first love, and family secrets, she fights to save herself.

Blog Tour: The ABCs with Graham and Roxana from The Geek’s Guide to Unrequited Love (Sarvenaz Tash) + a giveaway

Today we have a special edition of The ABCs brought to you by Sarvenza Tash for her characters Graham and Roxana in her new book The Geek’s Guide to Unrequited Love. Make sure you read all the way to the end to enter the giveaway.

Accessory: Moleskine Star Wars notebook
Graham is a writer and a bit of a paper nerd, so I think he would appreciate the quality and feel of the Moleskine notebooks. Plus the fact that this one has the famous opening title text from the original movie is a tribute to his dad—a huge Star Wars fan and the OG (Original Geek).

Book: Ready Player One
The ultimate nerdy action/adventure story. Both Graham and I adore this page-turning traipse through tons of gaming and pop culture references (especially with our predilection for ’80s pop culture).

Clothing: Yellow Leather Jacket
Graham wears something like this when cosplaying as Charlie Noth, one of the lead characters in his favorite comic series, The Chronicles of Althena.

Accessory: Sherlock Infinity Scarf
Look at this thing! It’s designed to look like the wallpaper from Sherlock. What a fabulously subtle way to declare your allegiance to those in the know. (Both Roxy and I are big BBC fans…)

Book: Illustrated Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Graham and Roxana bonded first of all over their love of the Harry Potter series. As an artist, and an HP fan, I think Roxy would very much admire Jim Kay’s depiction of Hogwarts (I know I certainly do).

Clothing: Pac-Man Dress
I love this whimsical dress and I can absolutely see Roxy rocking it.

John Hughes meets Comic Con in this hilarious, unabashedly romantic, coming-of-age novel about a teenager who is trying to get his best friend to fall in love with him from the author of Three Day Summer.

Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy...
Archie and Veronica...
Althena and Noth......
Graham and Roxy?

Graham met his best friend, Roxana, when he moved into her neighborhood eight years ago, and she asked him which Hogwarts house he’d be sorted into. Graham has been in love with her ever since.

But now they’re sixteen, still neighbors, still best friends. And Graham and Roxy share more than ever—moving on from their Harry Potter obsession to a serious love of comic books.

When Graham learns that the creator of their favorite comic, The Chronicles of Althena, is making a rare appearance at this year’s New York Comic Con, he knows he must score tickets. And the event inspires Graham to come up with the perfect plan to tell Roxy how he really feels about her. He’s got three days to woo his best friend at the coolest, kookiest con full of superheroes and supervillains. But no one at a comic book convention is who they appear to be...even Roxy. And Graham is starting to realize fictional love stories are way less complicated than real-life ones.

About Sarvenaz Tash
